Bussmagasinet and Railway News report that the FlixTrain company has made a historically large train order by acquiring 65 new high-speed trains from the Spanish manufacturer Talgo. The value of the contract is 2.4 billion euros, and it also includes a 15-year maintenance agreement. The trains will be equipped with Siemens-made Vectron locomotives and can travel up to 230 km/h. The fleet will include modern solutions, such as accessible boarding and fast WiFi.
According to FlixTrain, the new trains support the company's expansion in Germany and across Europe. The company has already increased its traffic by 40% in 2024 and now offers direct connections to 50 cities in Germany. The first partial order (30 trains, 1 billion euros) has already been confirmed. Flix's CEO André Schwämmlein emphasizes that the new trains mark the beginning of "a new era in train travel." The German government has supported the project, and FlixTrain is collaborating with the EU Commission to develop cross-border train connections. The trains are based on the same design as the ICE L trains of Germany's DB.
