Stefan Storrank lives with his wife in Vidsel, 35 km from Älvsby, in northern Sweden.  Stefan takes a weekly train to Stockholm, about 900 km away, where he has a job.

Stefan travels through Sweden every week almost emission-free

Travel emissions close to zero

Stefan Storrank’s travel does not cause very high carbon dioxide emissions. Tobbe Lundell, communications director at SJ, Sweden’s national railway company, says that train travel emissions from the north to Stockholm are practically about half a kilogram. The emissions of a comparable flight are several hundred times higher.

The EcoPassanger calculator confirms Lundell’s wild claim: the reading is close to zero. Electric trains are the most ecological way of travelling, and electricity for Swedish trains is produced with emission-free hydro and wind energy.
